How to Use Rubrics in Canvas

Rubrics are helpful for clarifying grading criteria and making grading more consistent and transparent.

Creating and Attaching a Rubric to an Assignment:

1. Go to Assignments and either create a new assignment or edit an existing one.

2. Scroll down and click + Rubric.

3. Click Find a Rubric to reuse one from another course or Build a new one directly.

4. Add your criteria, ratings, and point values.

5. Make sure "Use this rubric for assignment grading" is checked if you want SpeedGrader to auto-calculate the grade.

Grading with a Rubric in SpeedGrader:

1. Open SpeedGrader from the assignment page.

2. The rubric appears on the right side.

3. Click the appropriate rating for each criterion.

4. The total grade will auto-calculate if the rubric is set to grade the assignment.

5. Click Submit when finished.
