Body
SensusAccess can turn a reading into an MP3 you can play on your phone, laptop, or any music app. It is a great option if you learn better by listening, want to review on the go, or just need a break from the screen.
Using the web form
- Go to the SensusAccess Document Converter page and click the link under Convert a File.
- Upload your reading.
- Choose MP3 audio as the output format.
- Pick the language the reading is written in.
- Pick a reading speed. If you are not sure, start with a normal speed. You can always convert it again.
- Enter your email address and click Submit.
- When the email arrives, download the MP3 and save it somewhere easy to find.
Using Canvas
If SensusAccess is turned on in your course, you can do this right in Canvas.
- Find the reading in your course and click the circle with an S next to it.
- Choose the file, then choose MP3 audio as the conversion type.
- Under Conversion parameters, pick the language and speed.
- Click Download to save it now, or Email to have it sent to you.
Tips for better audio
- Match the language. Choosing the wrong language makes the voice mispronounce words.
- Long readings take longer. A full chapter may take a while to convert. Choosing email lets you walk away and come back.
- Scans can be tricky. If the reading is a photo or scan of a page, the audio is only as good as the scan. Smudges, handwriting, or crooked pages can turn into garbled words.
- Asian languages. Audio in Asian languages only works when the original file is a Word document.
