Zoom Whiteboard in Canvas

Body

The Zoom LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) Pro 1.3 Whiteboard tool integrates Zoom's whiteboarding capabilities directly into Canvas, allowing instructors and students to create and collaborate on whiteboards within Canvas LMS

Using the Zoom Whiteboard in Canvas

  1. Accessing the Zoom Tool:

    • Instructors can access the Zoom LTI Pro 1.3 tool from the course navigation menu within a Canvas course. If the link doesn't appear, go to Settings > Navigation > then enable Zoom LTI Pro 1.3 (be sure to click Save)
  2. Creating a Zoom Meeting with Whiteboard:

    • Instructors can schedule a Zoom meeting directly from Canvas using the Zoom LTI 1.3 Pro interface. During the meeting, they can use the whiteboard feature as they would in a standard Zoom meeting. Important: you must access Canvas via canvas.pugetsound.edu for this integration to work. Do not use the old link, pugetsound.instructure.com
  3. Starting a Whiteboard Session:

    • During a live Zoom meeting, the host (instructor) can start a whiteboard session. Participants (students) can join the session and collaborate in real-time.

Whiteboard Features

  • Drawing Tools: Instructors and students can draw, type text, and use shapes on the whiteboard.
  • Annotations: Participants can annotate on shared screens or documents.
  • Saving Whiteboards: Whiteboards can be saved and shared with participants after the session.
  • Multiple Whiteboards: Instructors can create and switch between multiple whiteboards within a single session.
  • Collaboration: Participants can interact and contribute to the whiteboard simultaneously, facilitating collaborative activities and discussions.

Benefits in Canvas

  • Seamless Integration: The integration makes it easy to schedule, start, and join Zoom meetings with whiteboarding directly from Canvas, streamlining the process for both instructors and students.
  • Enhanced Learning Experience: The whiteboard tool adds an interactive element to online learning, enabling visual explanations, collaborative problem-solving, and real-time feedback.
  • Centralized Access: All Zoom meetings, recordings, and whiteboards are accessible from within the Canvas course, providing a centralized location for course materials and activities.
