SPSS

SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is a software program used for statistical analysis in social science research, business, health sciences, and other fields. Developed by IBM, it offers tools for data management, statistical analysis, and graphical representation.

How to Use SPSS

  1. Access SPSS on VDesk :

  2. Load Data:

    • Open SPSS and load data files (CSV, Excel, SQL databases, etc.).
  3. Data and Variable Views:

    • Data View: Spreadsheet format for cases and variables.
    • Variable View: Define properties of variables (name, type, label, values, measurement level).
  4. Manage Data:

    • Use the "Transform" and "Data" menus for computing new variables, recoding, sorting, merging, and selecting subsets.
  5. Perform Analyses:

    • Choose analysis from the "Analyze" menu (e.g., "Compare Means," "Regression").
    • Example: For an independent t-test, go to "Analyze" > "Compare Means" > "Independent-Samples T Test," select variables, and define groups.
  6. Interpret Results:

    • Review results in the "Output Viewer" with tables, charts, and summaries.
  7. Graphical Representation:

    • Create charts using the "Graphs" menu and customize them in the Chart Editor.
  8. Save and Export:

    • Save data files (.sav) and export output to PDF, Word, Excel, or HTML.
