Overview
Okta Verify is an app for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, that allows you to quickly verify your login by responding to a yes/no push notification when prompted for MFA. The app supports both push notifications and offline verification using one-time codes displayed in the app. You can set up Okta Verify on multiple mobile devices.
Technology Services recommends all campus members to use Okta Verify as their primary security method for login.pugetsound.edu.
How to get Okta Verify
Okta Verify is available at no cost from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Start by installing the app on your mobile device, then follow the instructions below to set it up for your Puget Sound account.

If you are prompted to set up MFA when logging in, skip to step #5.
- Log in to your Puget Sound account at login.pugetsound.edu.
- Click your name in the upper-right corner then click Settings.

- In the Security Methods section, click Set up or Set up another next to the Okta Verify security method.
- Note: You can set up Okta Verify on multiple mobile devices.
- If prompted, re-authenticate to proceed.
- Click Set up or Set up another under the Okta Verify option.

- Additional setup instructions will appear. Be sure you have the Okta Verify app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store before proceeding.
- On your mobile device, open the Okta Verify app and tap Add Account or the plus sign (+).

- Tap Organization as the account type.
- Tap Skip when prompted to add account from another device.
- Tap Yes, Ready to Scan and allow access to the camera if prompted.
- Note: If you are unable to scan, click Can't scan? and you will be presented with options to have a link emailed or texted to you to finish the setup process. Alternately, tap No, Sign In Instead from the app, enter login.pugetsound.edu as the organization's sign-in URL, tap Next, and log in.
- Point your phone camera at the QR code displayed in your browser window.
- Note: Allow notifications and access to the camera if prompted.
- Optionally enable additional verification by tapping Enable or else tap Not Now.
- You should see an Account Added confirmation message in the app. Tap Done.
- You have finished setting up Okta Verify!

This option sends a push notification to your mobile device to approve the request.
- In a browser, go to login.pugetsound.edu.
- Type in your Puget Sound username and password then click Sign in.
- Select Okta Verify - Get a push notification.
- Note: If Okta Verify is not presented as an option, select Verify with something else.

- You will receive a push notification on your phone.

- Open the Okta Verify app if you do not immediately see the prompt.

- Open the notification and tap Yes, It’s Me to verify the login attempt.
- IMPORTANT: Never tap Yes, It’s Me if you did not initiate the sign on. If you did not just log in, tap No, It’s Not Me. Since this may indicate your credentials are compromised, we recommend changing your password and/or immediately calling the Service Desk at 253-879-8585.

This option requires you to type in a code and is best for situations where your mobile device has no Internet connectivity or cellular service.
- In a browser, go to login.pugetsound.edu.
- Type in your Puget Sound username and password then click Sign in.
- Select Okta Verify - Enter a code.
- Note: If Okta Verify is not presented as an option, select Verify with something else.

- Open the Okta Verify app on your mobile device.

- Enter the 6-digit code displayed in the app then click Verify.

What information does Okta Verify collect?
Okta Verify is an MFA app developed by Okta. For details on what data is collected by the app, please review Okta’s documentation on collected data types. Data collected by Okta is subject to their Privacy Policy.
Can Okta Verify access data stored on my mobile device?
No, Okta Verify does not have access to any of the personal data stored on your phone (e.g. text messages, emails, installed applications, location, photos). It merely serves as a security method to verify your identity when logging in to resources that require MFA.
