Instructions on setting up your Puget Sound account on login.pugetsound.edu

Update
- Starting June 10, 2025, the university has discontinued the option to add SMS (text message) or Voice Call verification methods for multi-factor authentication. Existing users who have SMS Authentication or Voice Call Authentication configured for MFA will still be able to log in using those methods until further notice.
Instructions
Open a web browser and go to
login.pugetsound.edu
.
Enter your Puget Sound username (
e.g. glogger
) and password then click
Sign in
.
If you did not receive a temporary password to set up your account, please call the Service Desk at 253-879-8585.
Create a new password that meets the requirements based on the
university's password policy
then click
Change Password
.
If prompted, click
Set up
to enroll in your preferred security method for multi-factor authentication (MFA). For detailed instructions on setting up these security methods, please refer to the articles below.
Okta Verify App
(
recommended
): push notification or one-time code
Google Authenticator
: one-time code generated by any authenticator app
Security Key
: FIDO2 hardware token (e.g. YubiKey)
Biometric Authenticator
: biometric (e.g. Touch ID)
Click
Set up
for
Security Question.
Select whether to
Choose a security question
from the drop-down list or
Create my own security question
to write your own. Type in your answer in the
Answer
field then click
Verify
. Only you should know the answer since it will be used to verify your identity during self-service account recovery if you forget your password or need to unlock your account.
You may be presented with the option to
set up other security methods for MFA
. Technology Services strongly recommends having more than one security method configured to prevent getting locked out of your account. If you would like to skip this step or do it later from your account settings, click
Continue
.
Type in your personal email address (not your Puget Sound email address) in the
Secondary email
field then click
Finish
. Technology Services strongly recommends adding this information so you can use it for self-service account recovery. If you would like to skip this step, click
Skip Profile
.
If you entered a secondary email address, you will receive an email to your personal mailbox. Please click the
Confirm Email
link in the message to verify the address. You must confirm the email before you can use it to reset a forgotten password or unlock your account.
You are ready to use your university account!
