Overview
LockDown Browser is a secure application that installs directly onto your computer. Mac users can install and use it just as easily as Windows users, and only need to do the installation once per device.

System requirements for Mac
LockDown Browser supports macOS 12 through the current release, and needs about 120 MB of free storage space. It is built on the same open source framework as Chrome, so you do not need Chrome installed on your Mac for it to work.
How to install on a Mac
- Log into your course in Canvas using a standard browser, then navigate to the quiz or exam that requires LockDown Browser.
- If it is not already installed, Canvas will prompt you with a download link for LockDown Browser.
- Click the link and choose the Mac version when given the option.
- Once the file finishes downloading, open your Downloads folder and double click the installer package to begin.
- Follow the on screen prompts, accept the license agreement, and choose to install for all users of the computer.
- Enter your Mac administrator password when prompted, then click Install to finish.
- Once installation is complete, go back to your course in a standard browser and open the quiz again. This will launch LockDown Browser automatically so you can begin your exam.
A few tips
Close out of any other programs before starting your exam, since LockDown Browser will prompt you to shut down anything running in the background. If you plan to use a different Mac later in the course, you will need to repeat the installation on that device as well.
