Overview
LockDown Browser installs directly onto your computer as its own application. On Windows, the installation only takes a few minutes and only needs to be done once per device.
Before you start

How to install on Windows
- Log in to your computer as a local administrator with full rights. You can check this under Control Panel, User Accounts, and then Change your account type.
- Log into your course in Canvas using a standard browser, then navigate to the quiz or exam that requires LockDown Browser. This will give you the installation link, unique to our institution.
- Download the LockDown Browser installer package. It will appear as a file such as LockDownBrowser followed by the version number, with an .exe extension.
- Once the download finishes, go to your Downloads folder and run the installer.
- Accept the default prompts to complete the installation.
- Once installed, go back to a standard browser, log into Canvas, and open the quiz again. Most courses will show a Launch LockDown Browser button on the quiz summary page. For Canvas Classic quizzes, you can also start it directly from the desktop by double clicking the LockDown Browser icon, which looks like a blue diamond with a gold padlock.
A few tips
Close any other programs before starting your exam, since LockDown Browser will ask you to shut down anything running in the background before it lets you begin. If you switch to a different Windows computer later in the course, you will need to repeat the installation there as well.
