SensusAccess Troubleshooting and FAQ

Most SensusAccess problems come down to a slow conversion, a hard to read original, or a setting in Canvas. Here are the most common questions and what to try.

My converted file never arrived.

  1. Check your junk or spam folder.
  2. Give it time. Large or complex files take longer to convert.
  3. Make sure you typed your email address correctly. If you are not sure, submit the file again.

My download link stopped working.

SensusAccess does not keep converted files forever. Submit the file again and save the new version as soon as it arrives.

The option I want is not showing up.

The choices depend on the file you upload. For example, an EPUB file can only become a MOBI file, and a MOBI file can only become an EPUB file. See "What File Types Can SensusAccess Convert?" for more.

The converted file has a lot of mistakes.

This almost always comes from the original. Blurry, crooked, smudged, or marked up pages convert poorly. Try to find a cleaner copy, and see "How Do I Get Good Results From a Scanned Document?" for tips.

I do not see the S icon in Canvas.

  • SensusAccess may not be turned on in that course.
  • The icon can take a few seconds to load. Try refreshing the page.
  • You can always use the SensusAccess Document Converter page instead.

Does converting a file make it fully accessible?

Not always. SensusAccess is a big help, especially for scanned documents, but it does not describe images or charts and may not handle complex tables or math well. Look over every converted file before you share it.

Can I convert anything I want?

Only convert materials you have the right to use. When you upload a file, you are confirming that you have the right to use and reproduce it. Converted files are for private study, scholarship, research, or accessibility purposes only, and using them for anything else may make you responsible for copyright infringement. The university can decline a conversion request that appears to violate copyright law.
