Instructions
Open a web browser and go to
login.pugetsound.edu
.
Log in with your Puget Sound username and password.
Click
Setup
under at least one option to enroll in multi-factor authentication. Technology Services strongly recommends setting up multiple options to prevent getting locked out of your account if you get a new phone or number. For detailed instructions on setting up these factors, please see our article on
setting up multi-factor authentication
.
Okta Verify App
(
recommended
): push notification or one-time code
Google Authenticator
: one-time code
SMS Authentication
: one-time code sent via text message
Voice Call Authentication
: one-time code provided via phone call
If prompted, set a new password then click
Change Password
.
For password recovery, type in your personal email address in the
Secondary email
field. Do not use your Puget Sound email address. If you do not wish to provide a secondary email or do not have one, click
I don't have a secondary email
. However, Technology Services encourages you to add a secondary email so you can reset a forgotten password or unlock your account via self-service outside support hours.
Click the dropdown menu to choose a security question and type in your answer in the field below. Only you should know the answer to this question. This will be used to confirm your identity when you forget your password or need to unlock your account.
If you would like to add a cell phone number as an additional option for password recovery, click
Add Phone Number
. This is optional.
Note: If you set up SMS Authentication as your factor, you will not see this option as it is already configured.
Click the dropdown to select the country where your phone is registered and enter your 10-digit cell phone number. Then click
Send Code
.
At this time, only US and Canada cell numbers can be used.
You should receive a text message on your cell phone. Enter the 6-digit code and click
Verify
. Once that is complete, click
Done
.
Click on any of the pictures to choose an image that will be associated with your Okta account. This image will be displayed on the Puget Sound Okta sign-in page after you enter your username so that you can recognize that the site is authentic.
Click
Create My Account
and your enrollment is complete!
If you entered a secondary email address, you should receive an email to your personal mailbox. Please click the
Confirm Email
link in the message to verify the address. You must confirm the email before you can use it to reset a forgotten password or unlock your account.
